The M8023A is a wide-range external power supply and network adapter that serves as the primary interface for connecting the MP2 monitor or X2 module to an AC mains power source. This optional accessory enables continuous operation and battery charging when the device is not connected to a host monitor.

Physical Connection
The M8023A connects to the MP2 or X2 via the Measurement Link (MSL) cable—the same type of cable used to connect the device to a host monitor such as the IntelliVue MP70. This design allows the device to be powered either by a host monitor or by the standalone M8023A power supply without requiring different cables.
Operational Features
  • Automatic Battery Charging: When the MP2 or X2 is connected to the M8023A power supply (or to a host monitor), the internal battery recharges automatically, with no user intervention required.
  • Hot-Swapping Capability: Users can switch between battery-powered and mains-powered (AC) operation without interrupting monitoring. This is particularly valuable during patient transport or when transitioning between bedside and ambulatory use.
  • Safety Requirement for Battery Compartment: For the X2 module specifically, a battery must remain inserted in the device even when running on external power via the M8023A. The battery seals the battery compartment, preventing ingress of fluids or foreign bodies. A severe yellow INOP ("!!INSERT BATTERY") will occur if the device is connected to AC mains without a battery fully inserted.
  • Enables MMS Extension Measurements: When using the MP2 monitor, measurements from an MMS (Multi-Measurement Module) extension are only available when the monitor is powered by the external power supply (M8023A) or the Battery Extension—not when running on the monitor's own battery power alone.
